Clearly stated in the original statutes from 1986, the missions of the Fondation des Treilles were essentially achieved during the modification that took place in 2004.

- Establish a centre for study and research in the fields of science, humanities and the arts.
- Encourage and support creative activities in all areas.
- Promote interdisciplinary study and research.

- To promote and advocate the Foundation’s guiding principles.
Different ways to achieve the foundation’s aims and objectives
Each year, from March to November, several seminars take place at the foundation. Their structure has been naturally determined by the missions of the foundation :
- an original theme,
- a number of participants limited to 15-20 people, in order to facilitate informal discussions, and the attendance of both senior and junior researchers,
- a relatively short time duration (from Monday to Saturday), with the hope that each participant is able to stay until the end of the conference,
- a program leaving plenty of time for questions and discussions.
The Foundation welcomes scholars, authors, and musicians in research workshops (5 to 15 people) for 6 days, and in research residencies for individuals or small groups (1 to 4 people) for 1 to 3 weeks. Experience has shown that meals taken together stimulate exchange and thus are of great value to all.
The Treilles contributes to young researchers’ studies by awarding annual young researcher prizes which help doctoral students complete a thesis of exceptional quality.
The Foundation welcomes the laureates of several residency prizes : authors of fiction or essays, photographers, and composers.
Finally, within the framework of the André Gide – Jean Schlumberger Centre, one archives prize is awarded each year. The winners, as well as laureates of the Catherine Gide Foundation and researchers wishing to consult the Centre’s documentary resources, are received at the Foundation.
